The sight of these creepy, crawlies, teaming somewhere in a person’s house is an anxiety causing one. Most people have heard about how hard it is to get rid of these little uninvited visitors. But with the use of boric acid ants kill ants.

The discovery of boric acid was made over 400 years ago by a man named Wilhelm Homberg. He discovered that BA could be taken out of a certain type of salt called borax. This is used in laundry detergents and insecticides today.

All over the Internet, one can find recipes for how to mix boric acid to create an effective ant-be-gone. The reason for this is that BA tops the list in effective ant killers. Another name for BA is Hydrogen Borate. Hydrogen Borate is a wimpy form of boron, and yet it has many uses in everyday life, such as an antiseptic.

The early Greeks used borates for cleaning and to preserve their foods. It has been used as a cure for Athletes foot and in low mixtures, an eye wash. It’s all in how it is prepared that makes it effective.

In 1948, it was regulated in the US as an insecticide to get rid of cockroaches, termites, fleas, and silverfish. The first thing to do is to determine which sort of ants are in one’s home. Some of them love sweet and some crave protein, so by setting out traps with both a sweet substance and a substance with protein, one can see which they prefer.

When mixed with certain foods, it becomes a magnet to them. When they devour the food, they also devour the BA. Ants are known for bringing their food back to the nest. In so doing, they bring the poison right into the heart of their home.

The reason why this has become the insecticide of choice is that it affects insects differently than it affects humans. Where a large quantity is needed to harm people, a small amount can take care of bugs quite nicely. BA goes to their metabolism, poisons their stomachs, is abrasive to their outer skeletons and it dehydrates.

Just a walk through the BA is affective as well for getting rid of an infestation. They have pores, which absorb oxygen, rather than lungs. These pores are in the feet as well as other locations on the body. If one of them prances through the BA, they will absorb it, and take it back to the queen and the rest of the group in the nest. With a mix of boric acid ants infect each other and soon be a notorious memory.

When using Boric Acid ants will go away. What is boric acid and what in it makes the ants disappear? That is a question we want to answer.
